First Blog Post

I've just been introduced to the whole 'blogosphere' and have learned a lot. I'll start off by saying that it is a great way to create your own personal web page if you're too lazy to create a website. In fact, blogging is way better than a website in terms of social activity.

I've visited some interesting blogs already:
http://onehungrychef.blogspot.com/ - A chef's blog - usually posts recipes and tasty pictures. Delicious.
http://stetienne-quebec.blogspot.com/ - A blog with a lot of nice pictures of the scenery in Quebec. Beautiful.
http://itscomingoutofyourspeaker.blogspot.com/ My personal favourite. This is a blog that posts a lot of underground music, mainly reggae, electronica and hip-hop. The best part is that the CDs or albums that are posted are free to download! Hooray for piracy! ;)

From visiting these examples of blogs as well as numerous others, I learned that blogging can be a very fun, useful social networking site. Blogs are like a collection of accessible online journals, and if you look around enough, you just might find something of interest to read. For instance, from the chef's blog, I just learned how to make the perfect pumpkin pie. From the music blog, I found out about a band called Orbital, a classic techno group. In using blogs, you learn things about normal individuals, and their interests from what they share and post. Blogging is a good way of fulfilling your interests, and finding people who share the same interests as you. I also learned that blogs are also a way for people to share their opinions, experience, daily life, and views over the internet for others to see. In addition, people can post their own pictures and videos for others to watch. There is a whole lot you can do on a blog.

Really, all I have to do is search my interests like 'Bad Brains' on blogger.com and I can find tons of other people who like and have an interest in Bad Brains. This is an easy way to connect with people based on sharing similar interests. Therefore, not only is blogging just an online journal, or an interest inventory but it is also a social networking site. That being said, blogging has a considerable impact on the world for these three things. Blogging has an impact on the world, as it allows anyone to connect with others through their interests. It is also useful for following a company, celebrity, or organization. Some blogs have attracted thousands of followers, and have grown to include archives.

One reason why the blogging craze has grown and allowed thousands to create and research blogs, is because it is easy to use, and its simply effective. Blogger has given useful tools to create a blog, and it so simple, even a child can probably create a good-looking, worthwhile blog. Blogger also has a nice social network set-up where people can find a blog they may want to read by just typing a simple key-word such as "scooters", and come across a blog about scooters (if that's what you're into).

Speaking of blogs, I have also came across twitter. Twitter is similiar to a blog, though instead of online personal journals, it focuses more on keeping up to date on what friends and celebrities are doing. You can post short updates (tweets) about what you are doing and for others to see. It is far more technologically-oriented than a blog, as you can send and receive tweets through a mobile phone, instant messaging or e-mail.

Blogging and tweeting are similar. They're both based on social networking, allowing individuals to post and share information with others. However, they both have different uses and purposes. They are both similar in networking, since you can search things on blogging sites, and find blogs, and you can search keywords on twitter and find twitter page updates that pertain to the keyword; they both feature search-and-find features. People can post on each other's blog and people can send each other tweets; they both feature social interactivity. Blogging is more necessary for keeping an online journal and not simply posting a small update on what is going on in your life. Blogs are good for expanding on entries, and are especially useful if you enjoy writing (kind of like me). They are good for posting pictures, videos and polls. Blogging is good for creating web pages on topics as well, such as music and food and politics... all things people will find interesting to read and follow. With twitter, you can follow others, just like with blogs, but its not about expanding on entries or talking about topics, as they're just short updates. Twitter is a far more better social networking site than blogging, as it is similar to facebook (the king of social networking sites) in interface and concept. Twitter is more personal, and not as anonymous as blogging can be. Twitter is more necessary for keeping up to date, following and interacting with friends, celebrities and family whereas blogging is more necessary for interacting with people over the internet. Blogging is a good way of satisfying your hobbies and interest needs, and finding people who have these same interests.
